These Older Adults Have It Made
My mother and father were getting along in years, so me and my siblings decided they deserved a life that was free from worry. This meant a new future, so we moved them to Hawaii to live with me and my wife. That only worked for so long. When your parents are older, you tend to overcompensate and they just want to be normal. We looked into buying a home with an extra living space, but they would hear nothing of it. They wanted a life detached from people who spent their time worrying. This is how we decided upon assisted living hawaii seniors were enjoying. To tell the truth, after seeing what was offered, I was jealous.
It is definitely the high life. My parents no longer do laundry and their meals are brought to them. They get to all of their physician visits on time and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii. It is a beautiful life.

When people begin to have someone come to their home to provide necessary care, the relationship usually begins at least somewhat begrudgingly. Home health care might be a way to stay out of a senior facility or the dreaded nursing home, but needing extra help signifies the impending end, and receiving that help, to some degree, legitimizes the need. The health care worker who comes to the home has every intention of helping, but they carry behind them the shadow of the Grim Reaper nonetheless. Over time, however, and especially when care relationships last for an extended period of time, a closeness often evolves between these workers and the people they help. Sometimes, they become very close, creating meaningful connections for the clients – some of whom have very little human interaction toward the end of their lives – and deepening the joy and level of commitment that the home health care workers feel toward their job.
Sleep Clinic or a New Bed?
I am one of the thousands of people I imagine who have bought a new adjustable bed from a bed sale online this year and if I am any indication of the way that people are thinking then I am sure sleep specialists are not having a great year. The reason for this is that I have suffered from a sleep apnea for the major part of my adult life and this has prevented me from getting a good night’s sleep for more than two decade.
The problem came to a head a couple of years back when I had my second child and the stress of bringing up two kids as well as holding down a full time job and taking care of a home as well proved too much for me and I decided go to a doctor and have my sleep related disorder diagnosed and treated. The first problem is that they could not tell whether I was suffering from periodic limb movement disorder or from restless leg syndrome and this took them a few months to figure out. The second problem was that even after I had spent months and many thousands of dollars on sleep clinics and sleep specialists I was put on a course of treatment that was meant for Alzheimer’s patients. This medication had some pretty serious side effects even though it seemed to cure my periodic limb movement disorder. Once I got tired of dealing with the side effects I stopped the medication and immediately my periodic limb movement disorder returned in full force.
That is when I realized that I had had enough of the medication and that I did not want to be using these drugs for the rest of my life just to be able to sleep at night. I decided to buy one of the new adjustable beds that were being advertised and there seemed to be special sleep apnea beds that were designed to cure or alleviate the sleep related disorders that people were dealing with. At first I thought I would buy one of the adjustable bed for sale from a site like Craigslist.org but Amazon.com had such a great deal on a brand new Tempurpedic bed that I went ahead and bought one.
